Important Information Regarding Applications for Change and/or Extension of Status
March 4, 2019
If you are thinking about extending your status or changing your status from one classification to another (tourist to student, for example), it is important to take note about these upcoming changes to the filing procedures.
On March 8, 2019, USCIS (Immigration Service) is scheduled to publish a new form I-539, Application to Change or Extend Nonimmigrant Status, which will include a new Supplement A. The Supplement A will now require signatures from every family member/dependent included in the application. Most importantly, USCIS will only accept the new version of the form for all cases they receive on or after March 22, 2019. Make sure you are using the correct version of the form to avoid getting your application rejected.
Another important change is that USCIS will now require nearly all I-539 applicants to appear for a biometrics appointment (collection of fingerprints and photograph). An additional fee of $85.00 per applicant will be required with the filing, in addition to the $370.00 base fee.
